We are currently recruiting for the next intake of our Young Persons’ Sports Panel and Young Start coaching programmes. Applications for both programmes close on 22nd May 2026.
Who are we looking for?
- Â People living in Scotland
- Â Young people with a disability aged between 16 and 24
- Â People who are committed and enthusiastic about disability sport
- Â People who can commit between 8 and 12 hours a month (depending on personal circumstances)
- Â People who are able to attend meetings every 2 months and/or monthly workshops, these will be mainly virtual sessions but some face-to-face opportunities will take place
- Â People who are passionate about making a difference in disability sport
Young Persons Sport Panel (YPSP)
The Young Person’s Sport Panel is a voice for young people with disabilities in sport. The group consults with and advises SDS staff and the Board. Joining the Panel is a 3.5 year commitment.
The Young Persons Sport Panel will create opportunities for young people to shape disability sport and influence programme development.
Panel members may:
- Share their experiences and ideas
- Help with planning and decision-making
- Attend, plan and run workshops and events
- Represent the voices of young disabled people
- Engage in leadership and advocacy opportunities
Young Start (YS)
The Young Start Coaching programme supports young disabled people to build confidence, develop skills, and engage more actively in coaching within their communities.This nine-month programme will include:
- 1 to 1 mentor support
- Attending short workshops to gain new skills
- Completing a Scottish Coaching Certificate Level 1 (or equivalent) awardÂ
- Local volunteering and participation opportunities
- Personal development and confidence building
The Young Person’s Sports Panel and Young Start Programmes epitomise the wider values of SDS:
