It’s been a great first day of the Scottish Disability Sport Summer Camp 2025!

After everyone had settled in, we went to the dining room to make some lunch before travelling to Loch Insch to start the activities.

The green team’s first activity was ice hockey. Some campers’ competitive spirits really came out when the games started yet, everyone was included and had an opportunity to shoot for goal!

Team leader, Ling Mann, said: “The green team’s outstanding moment of the day was Samantha getting in that water. She just desperately wanted to get in and she just loved it. Her mum was so chuffed that she got in too.”

Whilst some members of the green team managed to stay dry and remain in their canoes, others weren’t quite so lucky.

“Young Michael, on purpose, capsized our canoe,” said Ling. “I got him back though. We went in a couple of times. That was fun.”

Despite getting wet, spirits weren’t dampened and after a quick change into dry clothes, the team headed to the target area to do some archery to round off the afternoon. Again, another very fun activity!

Bring on day two!

DAY TWO

What fun we had on day two!

Today everyone travelled to Glenmore Lodge from where the expedition would begin. The blue team led the way, followed by the red and then the green team – which gave the green team the perfect opportunity to go over the challenges set by the black team, which included finding the most diverse range of leaves, creating a team chant and capturing a team photo.

After a little bit of time, the green team set off and the adventure began! As usual, the expedition provided a great opportunity for participants to test their resilience, perseverance and team working skills. It’s fair to say that everyone excelled in all those areas. Team leader, Ling Mann, said after completing the expedition which took everyone through the forest and along the beach of Loch Morlich:

“I am so proud about how everybody helped everybody. The participants helped each other, used the slings brilliantly and just took care of each other. I’m just so proud of the team.”

Everyone did a phenomenal job and really looked out for each other. Volunteer Cass thought that Brodie got stuck in; he completed all the challenges and was very enthusiastic.

Ling praised Jacob for getting stuck in and for, “taking care of the participants, helping with the slings and just being an awesome boy.”

Mark, the SDS regional development manager for Central Scotland, was also a part of the green team. He though that, “the most impressive highlight for me today was Richard, who managed to make it round our entire expedition without any assistance and on his walker. He was very tired at the end but very happy with himself for completing his personal goal for the day.”

After over five hours of walking, we’re pretty sure everyone is going to sleep well tonight!
