Get Out Get Active (GOGA) in Fife is into its final year of support from Spirit of 2012. GOGA in Fife is committed to encouraging inactive individuals with physical, sensory or learning disabilities to become involved in weekly sessions or Action for Change initiatives. Core activities within the GOGA programme in Scotland are walking, adapted cycling and adult swimming.
The GOGA in Fife programme is delivered inclusively with support personnel, volunteers and peer mentor volunteers playing key roles. Disability Sport Fife swim teacher Kathy Bijak has grown an GOGA adult improvers swim session over the past year to such an extent that an additional teacher has been taken on board with support from Fife Sports and Leisure Trust. Over 20 adult improvers with additional support needs are registered and water space has been extended accordingly.
Welcome on board as a GOGA in Fife swim teacher, Kirsteen McInnes, an employee of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust. Thanks to GOGA investment in Fife we have been able to sign up Kirsteen for the final year of the Wednesday GOGA in Fife swim session. Kirsteen will work with Kathy and GOGA in Fife peer mentor volunteers.
The two teachers already work together at other times during the week and welcome the opportunity to teach together on the GOGA in Fife programme. Both teachers attended an inclusive swim course early in the year delivered by FSLT, Scottish Swimming, SDS and GOGA in Fife with support from Spirit of 2012. Session attendees are adult learners/improvers with additional support needs of all levels of ability. The one hour session is held at the Michael Woods Sports & Leisure Centre on Wednesdays from 11 30. Registration forms available from the Disability Sport Fife office.
Welcome on board Kirsteen, thanks to GOGA investment in Fife.
