Superb Inclusive Bowls Developments in Fife

Disability Sport Fife enjoys very special relationships with Dovecot Bowling Club and Headwell Bowling Club. Action for change initiatives that were prompted by GOGA in Fife (Get Out Get Active) have blossomed into regular bowls coaching and competition opportunities for a significant number of players with additional support needs.

Dovecot Bowling Club was well represented in the men’s open section at the recent Fife Indoor Championships at the East Fife Indoor Club at Aberhill. Headwell Bowling Club hosted a very successful Sunday inclusive open day recently and was well represented for the first time at the Fife Indoor Championships. Club members won three titles on their first visit.

In Disability Sport Fife we believe it takes “champions” to bring about change and make things happen. Mike Mowat is the man behind the Dovecot project and Alyn Steedman and Chris Osborne are the driving forces behind the developments at Headwell. Also heavily involved of course are the club members within each club. In the case of the Headwell project, Disability Sport Fife pays tribute to the brilliant support staff from West Fife Community Support Services who have been critical to this inclusive sports development.
