Scottish Disability Sport Coaching and Education

Education and Training

IIP

‘For someone who has been coaching adaptive clients for a while it was useful as a refresher.  I think some of the info in it for someone new would be invaluable’ – Willie, Outdoor Instructor.

Would you like to learn more about being inclusive in sport?  This free, entry-level module will be particularly useful to those new to or looking to gain confidence in coaching inclusively. It should take approximately 60 minutes to complete and can be completed in stages rather than all at once if you prefer.

This free module is available by clicking here.

If you are a club leader, committee member or involved in the development of clubs, you can also access the Inclusive Club Resource free of charge by clicking here.

Description

Scottish Disability Sport offers a wide selection of other Coaching and Education opportunities to everyone involved in disability sport.  Our aim is to raise and improve standards, ensure the enjoyment of members and develop young people, athletes and players to their full potential.

You can join in on one of our scheduled workshops funded by our partners or we can arrange your own bespoke workshop for you.  For more information on what types of courses we provide contact admin@scottishdisabilitysport.com.

Courses Available

We schedule a number of workshops funded by our partners that are available for anyone involved in disability sport to attend.  You can contact your local branch or SDS Regional Manager to see if they have any training scheduled in your area.

Perhaps you would like a bespoke workshop for your particular sport, club or school.  Costs are £400 for a 2-hour practical workshop, £650 for a 3-hour theory and practical workshop or £1,200 for an accredited 6-hour day workshop with assessment.

Further Resources

Before or after you attend a workshop you might find it valuable to have a look at all the different resources Scottish Disability Sport have to offer.

We have a range of different ways to help everyone.  For practical resources you can download great ideas here.  We also have free Introduction to Inclusive Practice module above or videos at our SDS YouTube channel which show the AIM and STEP model.

Partnership

Our Coaching and Education programme has developed, co-ordinated and delivered a range of services throughout Scotland in conjunction with major partner agencies. We meet with key partners biannually through our Disability Sport Coaching and Education Group to progress actions identified through our Education and Learning Planning Tool, a live document which we use to map progress, set priorities and address gaps across multiple sectors relating to education.

With the support of these partners SDS continues to work with Scottish Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Authorities, Regional Sports Partnerships, Local Sports Councils, the Higher and Further Education Sector and others to implement a wide spectrum of coaching, tertiary education and development opportunities.  Click here for more information on some of our work supported by these partners.

SDS Language and Terminology Paper

This paper offers advice on language and terminology for SDS personnel and partners. It is designed to encourage those responsible for organising or delivering Scottish national events, festivals, courses, or training to adopt best practices and consistency of language and terminology. The desired outcome of this paper is for SDS personnel and partners to introduce appropriate and modern, participant-friendly language and terminology. Most importantly, they will lead by example and, if necessary, question their use of language and terminology to ensure it is appropriate and respectful.

You can view the SDS Language and Terminology Paper here.
