Inclusive Swimming Gala Success

Inverurie Rotary Swimming Gala

A historical Grampian gala has once again proven the worth and success of inclusive swimming.

This year’s annual Rotary Gala, held in Inverurie, attracted 60 swimmers from ages 8 to 50+ of all abilities and disabilities including swimmers from the local clubs, and their families and friends. The Gala (a participatory event) has been supported by the Rotary Club of Inverurie for many years and was originally set up to combine swimmers from St Andrew’s School (an ASN school based in Inverurie) and Garioch Amateur Swimming Club.

St Andrew’s School no longer enters a team into the Gala thanks to discrete provision for disabled swimmers now being offered by the Swimming Club. Garioch Gators now caters for the needs of swimmers with physical, sensory and learning disabilities in the area.

Retired swimmers are also invited to the event, and this year, featured its first retired Gators swimmer, Scott Walker, who had completed a mammoth 150 mile cycle the previous day!

Well done to all of the swimmers and a special thanks to Pauline Stirling and her team for organising such a great event!
