scottishathletics

scottishathletics aims to ensure there are a range of opportunities for athletes with disabilities to participate and reach their full potential in athletics.

We have more than 150 athletics clubs, and they are encouraged to include para athletes into mainstream activity where appropriate. For some clubs or athletes, it may be more suitable to consider a disability section, which provides more specific opportunities for a wider community.

We provide a pathway for para athletes all the way from participation level to high performance, and support them to access suitable mainstream or disability-specific clubs. We also work with coaches to provide appropriate training opportunities.

There are many local, national and club competitions throughout the year that are open for para athletes to compete in. Some para events are also integrated into the national track and field championships. We work with Scottish Disability Sport to offer a range of disability-specific competitions across the country, throughout the year.

For those who don’t need additional support, our jogscotland programme has 300 jogging groups around the country, offering friendly jogging sessions for everyone from complete beginners to marathon runners. If you prefer to run outwith a group, the jogscotland programmes are available free of charge online, and can take you in gradual, achievable steps all the way from Walk for Fitness and Learn to Run, up to 10K training plans.

We have some general good advice for staying active in the Active Living section of the jogscotland website – https://jogscotland.org.uk/active-living/
