Ayrshire Sportsability held their annual competitive boccia festival on 5th September at The Citadel, Ayr.
Participants from schools all over Ayrshire came along to compete, and the medalists from the day have qualified to compete in the West of Scotland Schools Boccia competition on 19th September at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow. Ayrshire Sportsability are delighted to support the athletes to get there with funding from the STV Children’s Appeal.
Special thanks go to the Ayrshire College students who volunteered at the event, many of whom had only started college the week before. This was a great opportunity for them to experience a disability sport event. Two of the Ayrshire College students were Ross Munro and Reegan Stevenson who are boccia players and play in Glasgow. They were able to give a boccia masterclass to their fellow students before they attended the event.
ASA is also very grateful to Lynn Allison from SDS for her guidance before after and during the event and Jill Tomlinson from Competitive Sport, South Ayrshire Active Schools who did the groupings on the day. Lewis McConnell, apprentice boccia coach for SDS, was in attendance to assist the referees.
