Active Life Club

Active Life Club (ALC) established in 1999, empowering young people through sports. Outstanding efforts in promoting equity in sports for disadvantaged groups. ALC has been a trailblazer, breaking barriers and fostering a spirit of inclusivity within the sporting community.

ALC has successfully transformed the lives of thousands through multi sports, led to remarkable achievements. One remarkable initiative within ALC is the young Female Volunteer Empowerment Project through sports, challenges stereotypes and dispels myths surrounding minority ethnic female as sports coaches. It has inspired numerous to pursue non-traditional careers in sports coaching, showcasing the potential for growth and success in this domain. Transitioning career in sports coaching, recently one received an outstanding young leader award.

ALC embodies cultural intelligence and community trust, providing a supportive environment where young female staff in leadership roles serve as inspiring role models. Their influence has encouraged young girls to volunteer, developing transferable skills, enabling them to actively contribute to society and pursue their personal goals.

The vision of an inclusive sporting community is progressively reducing racial/gender inequalities. Past year alone, recruited 45 volunteers, 95% of whom were young female sporting champions, contributing an astounding 1701 hours of service, with an impressive 83% retention rate. Volunteers served 958 individuals through various sports activities and training sessions.

Creation of a youth & parent forums where they play an equal part in delivery, further reinforces the commitment to gender inclusion. Collaborations with various universities to equip them to challenge inequalities, becoming mentors and changing lives.

Disability with Attitude

On 3rd December at 7:30 AM , to coincide with UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities Radio Scotland airs a documentary by journalist Michael McEwan, covering how attitudes surrounding disability have changed over the last four decades.

Michael celebrated his 40th birthday this year and wanted to find out how much we have moved on in society towards people with a disability since 1983.

Michael speaks to his parents of their experiences of raising a child with Cerebral Palsy, he also caught up with former pupil and friend Martin Dougan, now a fellow BBC journalist, to share memories of the school they both attended, Ashcraig in Glasgow.

Michael also speaks to Catherine Graham, Head of Inclusion of Glasgow City Council, about how education became more inclusive for pupils with disabilities by the 1990’s

Michael spoke with Lyn Pornaro, chief executive officer of  Disability Equality Scotland, she explained what impact the introduction of Disability Discrimination Act in 1995 had on people living with a disability.

Goalball UK

Goalball UK is the national governing body for the Paralympic sport of goalball in the United Kingdom. We are proud to be a registered charity, where our mission is to develop and promote the sport of goalball, creating opportunities for people with visual impairments to participate and compete at all levels.

Goalball UK also provides support and guidance to players, coaches, officials, and clubs across the country, with a focus on promoting inclusivity and equality in sport. The organisation also works closely with schools and community groups to introduce goalball to new players and raise awareness of the sport’s benefits.

Through its partnerships with other organisations, Goalball UK strives to increase the visibility and accessibility of goalball, both nationally and internationally. The organisation also hosts events and three levels of competitions throughout the year.

As a sport, goalball offers a unique and exciting experience for players and spectators alike. With its emphasis on teamwork, communication, and skill, goalball is a sport that is accessible to all, regardless of age, ability, or background.

Scottish Women in Sport

Scotland where women and girls have equal opportunities to thrive in all areas of sport, with a mission stating that we will advocate for change, elevate voices and enable growth for Scottish women and girls in sport.
Our aim is to support sports and athletes to ensure that fairness and equality is enjoyed by all. Our annual conference brings together the top names in sport to share their knowledge on a host of issues, and our annual conference celebrate those at all levels in sport. Currently working with SAMH on a Young Women in Sports Leadership, mentoring programme, which has been supported by Active Scotland.

Scottish Golf

Scottish Golf is the national governing body for the sport of golf in Scotland. Based at Rosyth, we provide support to Scotland’s affiliated 569 golf clubs, representing over 209,000 golf club members and providing playing opportunities to another estimated 200,000 independent golfers.

We strive to promote, develop and govern golf for all generations and without barriers. Supporting clubs to be more welcoming, open and inclusive with a view to increasing membership for all, with a particular emphasis on women and young people; provide the insights, tools and resources that help golf clubs embrace the needs of demographic change, digital
transformation and influence cultural change; identify and secure new investment channels to reinvest in the evolution and growth of the game in Scotland.

Fife Active Schools

Fife Active Schools aims to provide more and higher quality extra-curricular opportunities to take part in Sport and Physical Activity.

With support from our partners we will reduce inequality in access to sport and physical activity provision for all young people facing barriers. Specifically on inclusion we provide locality-based para sport provision in school and community for young people with physical, learning and sensory disabilities as well as those on the neurodiverse spectrum. Through our work with partners we work to strengthen pathways into adult provision creating opportunity for lifelong participation.

 

GOGA Tayside

Get Out Get Active (GOGA) is an exciting programme that was delivered across the UK from April 2020 to October 2023, supporting disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy being active together.GOGA was made possible by Spirit of 2012 building on the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games alongside The National Lottery, Sport England and London Marathon Charitable Trust.

In Tayside, the GOGA programme is now proudly funded by Tayside Health Fund from October 2023. We are hosted by NHS Tayside and supported by Scottish Disability Sport.
